Why do we wear a Saint Christopher pendant?
The significance of wearing a St Christopher medal began as a form of religious protection. The medal was originally a form of worship to the figure of St Christopher, a martyr that lived during the Roman Empire, around the 3rd century.
The name Christopher means ‘Christ bearer’ in Greek, or ‘one who carries Christ’. One of the most popular stories of St Christopher is the story of the child he found and then carried across a river. The child is later revealed to be Christ, which is why St Christopher became the patron saint of travellers.
As a result of this story, the St Christopher medal typically depicts this patron saint of travellers as a large man dressed in robes, with a child over his shoulder and a staff in his hand – the staff is thought to represent St Christopher as a protector against death during travelling.
Despite the pendant having origins in religion, it is now a popular choice for anybody embarking on a trip, often given as a thoughtful gift, or simply as a fashionable item. The ever-growing popularity of the St Christopher pendant is the reason that it remains one of our best sellers.
How are our St Christopher pendants made?
Our St Christopher’s have always been stamped in-house, out of gold or silver sheet, in varying thicknesses depending on the size and weight of the medal.
Our collection of St Christopher’s comes in over a dozen sizes, with the smallest starting at 8mm and the largest measuring at 30mm. Our medals also vary in shape, stamped as round, oval, rectangular, square, hexagonal or heart, all with the classic image of St Christopher carrying the child.
Our medals also come with a choice of finishing. The outer border of the pendant can be hand finished plain, diamond cut or engraved with a personal message. Two of our St Christopher pendants can also have the travel symbols of a plane, train, car and boat stamped on the reverse.

All of our St Christopher pendants are stocked in silver and 9ct yellow gold. Some of our styles are also available in 9ct red or white gold, and 18ct yellow.
